Smart Chicks Kick It 2.0 Interview with Carrie Ryan

What made you decide to participate in the Smart Chicks Kick It Tour this year?

I had such an amazing time on the tour last year that I jumped for joy when I heard there would be another tour this year! Writing can be such an isolating profession and it’s amazing the kind of energy you can get from talking to other authors and meeting such enthusiastic readers. I couldn’t pass up that opportunity!

Do you have a favorite memory from last year’s tour?

Last year I got to meet Rachel Caine for the first time and she’s such a fantastic author and amazing person! I loved spending the down-time in San Diego with her walking down to the beach and watching the seals frolic on nearby rocks. Another memory that will be hard to top was just the sense of palpable excitement before the authors took the stage at each stop — not just from the readers but from the authors as well. It’s just so much fun geeking out over our mutual love of books!

What are you most looking forward to on the tour this go around?

I’m super excited that I get to return to Shuler Books in Lansing. I was lucky enough to visit there while on tour for The Dead-Tossed Waves and it’s a wonderful store. That’s where I met Whitney Spotts who is hands down one of the most enthusiastic and fun booksellers I’ve ever met. She’s probably a bigger zombie fan than I am and I had the best time hanging out with her! Schuler just pulled out all the stops for my visit and I can’t wait to see everyone again!

One thing is for certain…there are some amazing authors on this tour with awesome books… Do you find time to read books by any of your fellow authors on tour? If so, who?

I’m really honored to be a part of such a great group and I definitely try to read as many of my fellow author’s books as I can. That’s how I ended up getting hooked on Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampire series!

What is next for you?

Right now I’m just writing, writing, writing! I actually have several projects in the works that I’m super excited about but I haven’t been able to formally announce anything yet so… all I can say is that I’m writing :)
