It’s been awhile since my last article. I’ve been writing more for PBD, however in the last few months I haven’t been able to write those articles either. It’s not that I haven’t wanted to write for my friends or for their readers, but I’ve been working with my editor. As some of you know I’ve been working with an editor for a year. I didn’t have a contract, and I hadn’t been sending submissions in. I had stopped shortly after my father past. I had however been submitting three line teasers on Savvy Author, when agents and editors asked for submittions.

I only posted my teaser when an agent and editor fell within the scope of my writing, because I didn’t want to waste their time or mine posting when they wouldn’t look at my three lines. On one of these such posting, an editor, who hadn’t been the one requesting lines contacted me. She liked my three lines because they reminded her of her favorite Stephen King novel.

After this initial contact we started emailing back and forth, she wanted to see my synopsis and the first fifty pages. Since then we’ve been working on the first three an a half chapters, and the novel has come a long way. We’ve gone from first person POV to third and then worked through the issues that raise from changing POV. Making sure everything makes since, flows and that all the I’s are now she/her/characters name. With her thoughts and ideas we’ve tightened up my writing, and its working great. So now that we’ve been doing this dance for a year her house has offered me a contract.

Last week a draft was sent and I took a day an a half to get back to them. I read over the contract and then had a few other people look it over. Overall I got a pretty good contract, which or a first time author is great. I did try and negotiate a few things, though since I’m working with a small house the negositation didn’t go far. Not a big deal since the contract is pretty good as I said. So this week I told the Publisher that I wanted to accept the contract. The contract did have a few changes so I’m hoping to get the contract back soon so I can sign it.

I can’t give you all the details of the contract but the contract did give me deadlines. So now I have to finish making all of the POV changes and so forth before October. When October comes the race will be on and I’ll tell you more about that at a later time. Be on the lookout though, sooner or later the novel I’m calling Legacy will be available for you to read.
