Passport: England- Book Chick City visits the dollhouse

Please welcome the fabulous Carolyn who runs the wonderful London book blog, Book Chick City.
I love my home – England is a pretty great place to live, except for the miserable weather. I thought I would write about some of the things I love about my home and give you a short tour.
There’s so much history that left behind ancient buildings, bridges, monuments, sculptures, war memorials and gorgeous castles, such as Warwick Castle (below) built by William the Conqueror back in 1068, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London and many others across the country.

Not to mention one of the best and most vibrant cities in the world… I adore London. There’s so much to do. I love the hotels, the theatre (I’ve see lots of shows, my favourite is Beauty and the Beast), and of course the shopping! I go to Harrods at least twice a year to stock up!
I only really discovered the ‘English countryside’ myself about 10 years ago. Most of my holidays were abroad but in 2000 the hubster and I decided to go hiking in the Lake District rather than the Alps and I’m so glad we did. My love affair with the Lake District began that year and hasn’t let go. There are many wonderful and amazing English landscapes but the photos below are of my personal trips to the Lake District, but there’s the Yorkshire Moors, the Peak District, the Cornish Coast and many more which are just as beautiful.

And of course not forgetting Royalty. I am very proud of our royal heritage.
England also has a rich literature history too. Many classic authors came from England such as Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, William Shakespeare, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Thomas Hardy, Beatrix Potter, the poets Keats, Wordsworth and Byron, all came from England… I’m particularly proud of the fact that most of the world’s famous classic authors were born and bred in good ol’ blighty!

The English are also very much into their grub. A large Sunday roast is a big favourite. Roast chicken, pork and crackling or a joint of juicy beef (my particular favourite!), with crispy roast potatoes, lots of veg and fat Yorkshire puddings, topped with yummy gravy. I’m sure you’ve already heard how the English are also partial to a nice cup of tea, especially if part of Afternoon Tea, which consists of quaint assorted sandwiches, delicious cakes and scones with thick silky clotted cream and sweet strawberry jam (and maybe a glass of champagne, or two!).
So there you have it – a tour of my favourite things about England – what a fab place, don’t you agree?! :D I will leave you with one last image: Our mascot…

Day is a dreamer who has never met a stranger. She is fearless and will talk to anyone and read anything! She taught music and dance and was a singer/actress for years, performing on stages both nationally and overseas. Now married with children, she spends less time singing on stage and more time writing songs at home. But, family life has not completely slowed this chick down. She still loves an adventure and learning new things. She resides in Texas with her family, Great Dane (Sophie), Labradoodles (George & Cosmo) and Chihuahua (Juan Carlos).

Hi. I have always wanted to visit England and so a tour of all the haunted castles and hotels. Stonehenge would be awesome to see as well as all the museums. Thanks for the post the bulldog was very cute!!!
