Twice Bitten Blog Tour-Interview with Chloe Neill (And Giveaway!)

Submitted by on July 7, 2010 – 6:00 am23 Comments
Today we have the pleasure of welcoming back Chloe Neill to Paperback Dolls! Chloe Neill is here on her blog tour for Twice Bitten the third installment into her Chicagoland Vampires series which released yesterday and was reviewed earlier today by Lisa. (We can assure you that the rest of us Dolls have read Twice Bitten and absolutely loved it!)

*Clicking on Chloe’s button will take you to a full list of blog tour dates*

PBD: Chloe, we’d like to welcome you back to Paperback Dolls.
Chloe: Thanks for having me!

PBD: Can you tell us about your Chicagoland vampires?
Chloe: Absolutely. In the CV series, we meet Merit, a 27 year-old graduate student who’s pulled into a house of very political vampires in Chicago. She learns she has to trade English Literature for vampire warfare, and she’s not initially thrilled with the choice.

PBD: Can you tell us why you choose Chicago for the setting of Chicagoland Vampires?
Chloe: I wanted a location with interesting politics, history, culture and food. I couldn’t do better than Chicago!

PBD: Can you tell us more about Twice Bitten?
Chloe: Sure. Twice Bitten takes place a couple of weeks after Friday Night Bites. Gabriel Keene has informed Ethan and Merit that the shifters are preparing to meet in Chicago, and Merit has headed out to meet with the mysterious someone who’s been leaving notes in her room. Twice Bitten picks up there.

PBD: Where did you come up with your idea for Merit and the Chicagoland world?
Chloe: I knew I wanted to write about a heroine who was also a vampire. I consider myself to be pretty geeky and sarcastic, so I thought I’d give Merit some of those attributes.

PBD: Will the Chicagoland Vampire novels ever have a different point of view? How about a spin-off series?
Chloe: I plan on writing from Merit’s point of view, although I can definitely imagine Mallory or Lindsey having their own spin-off novellas.

PBD: Do you know how your Chicagoland series will end?
Chloe: Yes. And that’s all I’ll say about that. ;)

PBD: Do you have mental pictures of your characters that fit the bill of celebrities?
Chloe: The clearest mental picture I have is of Ethan, who I’ve always imagined looks like David Beckham. Ah, Becks. :)

PBD: How do you keep track of your world building?
Chloe: I use well-worn copies of SGB and FNB, and I have a friend who acts as a continuity editor. She’s a huge help in ensuring blue eyes stay blue. :)

PBD: Are you a plotter, pantser, or combination?
Chloe: I’m a pantser by birth, but a plotter by contractual requirement. :) My editor tends to preferplots.

PBD: How did you get started writing professionally?
Chloe: I’ve always written for work, but I started writing fiction in 2005. I decided it was time to write the story I wanted to read, and SOME GIRLS BITE was born!

PBD: What interrupts or interferes with your writing the most?
Chloe: Everything. I am easily distracted, especially by the shiny Interwebs.

PBD: Are you ever overwhelmed with the attention you receive now?
Chloe: My fans are pretty low-key, so their attention is quite manageable.

PBD: What question would you like an interviewer to ask, but somehow they never do?
Chloe: My boyfriend answers as follows: “They never ask about your hot boyfriend.” ‘Nuff said about that, I suppose. :)

PBD: What would you like people to know about you?
Chloe: That I truly appreciate that people spend their hard-earned money on my books. That’s an incredibly flattering realization.

PBD: Is there a different genre of fiction that you would like to write about? If so what?
Chloe: I would love to write a Regency romance, but that’s waaaaay in the future. There’s a lot of research I’d have to do first! :)

PBD: What is your current state of mind?
Chloe: Mildly amused.

PBD: What is your favorite occupation? (Way of spending time)
Chloe: Reading, marketing, spending time with friends, playing with my dogs.

PBD: Who is your favorite fictional hero?
Chloe: Claire Fraser, from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series.

PBD: What is your most treasured possession?
Chloe: My dogs, although they would object to being referred to as “possessions.” :)

PBD: What is your favorite journey?
Chloe: Anywhere in the car. I love car trips.

PBD: Which words or phrases do you over-use?
Chloe: Apparently, I say “apparently.” A lot.

PBD: What is it you most dislike?
Chloe: Mean people, of any type.

PBD: What is your motto? (Words you live by or mean a lot to you)
Chloe: I’m a strong believer in the Golden Rule.

Thank you Chloe for answering our questions!

About Chloe Neill:
Chloe is the author of Chicagoland Vampire novels- Some Girls Bite, Friday Night Bites and Twice Bitten. As well as the young adult Dark Elite novels- Firespell and Hexbound (due out January 2011)

I was born and raised in the South, but now make my home in the Midwest, just close enough to Cadogan House and St. Sophia’s to keep an eye on things. When not transcribing Merit’s and Lily’s adventures, I bake (a lot!), watch entirely too much television, root for my favorite college football team (Go Big Red!), spend time with friends, and play with my dogs, Baxter and Scout.

Contest Time!!

Chloe wanted us to let you know that she has a signed copy of to offer up to one lucky winner! Just leave her a comment or ask her a question. It’s that simple!

Merit, Chicago’s newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene—and to spy for the vamps while she’s at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan’s offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.

Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she’ll probably regret it. And she’s not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.

This contest is for U.S. and Canadian residents only.

  • Subscribed! Thanks for introducing me to this site. Now that I no longer work in the book industry, and therefore no longer have Publishers Weekly plopped on my desk every Monday, I am always on the lookout for advanced notice of book releases. Since the local library has had its budget slashed, there are many more people on the waitlist than there are books to wait for!
