Goddess of Partholon Series
By: P.C. Cast
Hello Lovers! I have been busy reading a new series the past couple weeks…well new to me anyway. I am a big fan of Oklahoma author P.C. Cast, but I hadn’t read her adult fiction series until now. Let me just say, it was a blast reading these books and I am so excited to share with all of you my newest favorite series. These books are chalk full of mythology, history, legends, and some amazingly, great characters! So, in the words of P.C. Cast herself; “curl up with a glass of your favorite wine and enter Partholon, but beware! Like me, you may never want to leave…“
Divine By Mistake
The only excitement Shannon Parker expects while on summer vacation is a little shopping. But when an antique vase calls to her, she finds herself transported to Partholon, where she’s treated like a goddess. A very temperamental goddess… Somehow Shannon has stepped into another’s role as the Goddess Incarnate of Epona. And while there’s an upside–what woman doesn’t like lots of pampering?–it also comes with a ritual marriage to a centaur and threats against her new people. Oh, and everyone disliking her because they think she’s her double. Now, Shannon needs to figure out how to get back to Oklahoma without being killed, married to a horse or losing her mind….
Divine By Choice
Shannon Parker has finally come to terms with life in the mythical world of Partholon. She loves her centaur husband, her connection to the goddess Epona and the pampering that comes with both! She’s almost forgotten her old life on Earth–especially when she discovers she’s pregnant….Then a sudden burst of power sends her back to Oklahoma. Without magic, Shannon can’t return to Partholon–and so she needs to find help. Trouble is, it might take the form of a man as tempting as her husband. And along the way she’ll discover that being divine by mistake is a lot easier than being divine by choice….
Divine By Blood
Conceived in a lie and trapped in a tree throughout her gestation, Morrigan’s birth was truly magical. After that start, she spent the next eighteen years raised as a normal girl in Oklahoma. Upon discovering the truth of her heritage, her rage and grief take on a power of their own, carrying her back to the world of Partholon. Yet, instead of being respected as the daughter of the Goddess Incarnate, Morrigan feels like a shunned outsider. In her desperation to belong to Partholon, she confronts forces she can’t fully understand or control. And soon a strange darkness draws closer….
Elphame’s Choice
Worshiped. Set apart. Unable to connect with others. Though most girls believe she’s different, Elphame knows she is. Odd. Strange. Unique. No one in Patholon has her abilities–or her connection ot their goddess. And she has a destiny she is about to discover….A restlessness has infused her, leading her to the other side of her country. There, the remnants of an evil war still linger. Will Elphame be able to redeem both her country and her soul mate, a survivor of that war? The choice she makes now may bring disaster-or a future in which she may never be alone again.
Brighid’s Choice
Rather than follow her family’s restrictive rules, centaur Brighid chose to set out on her own to make friends and form relationships with humans as well as centaurs. Now she’s facing her toughest challege yet. While helping guide home a grieving human, Cuchulainn, her friend Elphame’s brother–Brighid finds herself beginning to care for herm. An emotion forbidden by her clan. Adding to her troubles, the Great Goddess has awoken the power of the Shaman within Brighid–the first centaur so blessed in ages. And just as she’s torn between taking up a power she never expected and a love she’s afraid to admit to, Brighid receives a vision of a tragedy that might destroy everyone she’s ever cared about….
I absolutely loved this series! They read like a movie playing in my head. It was great to see that the books stood on their own more than other popular series. Each of the books I highly recommend, though Divine By Mistake is my favorite. The character of Shannon Parker, a school teacher in Oklahoma, was someone I found I related to with ease. Getting to know her for the first time in Divine By Mistake was like catching up with an old friend, you just had this feeling that you knew her from somewhere. Watching Shannon wake up in a different world as a goddess — with no classroom to teach and no Oklahoma landscape in sight — was entertaining and charming. The villains in this book were fantastically creepy, the adventures were intense and the romance was surprising and hot!
I adored the humor and wit that Cast gave each of her characters in this series. They are all strong and intriguing and I truly enjoyed stepping into their world. The rich mythology that was woven into the series was simply “Divine”, and I am sorry that it took me so long to discover these engaging books. If you are already a fan of her Young Adult series, House Of Night, (co-written by Cast and daughter Kristin) I urge you to give this adult series a try. They are just as much fun, but have a little more meat on the bones (if you know what I mean).;)
The Goddess of Partholon series is to be published for the first time in the UK 2010. When the Series was first released in the US it achieved numerous awards including the Prism, Holt Medallion, and Laurel Wreath awards and it was shortlisted for the National Readers’ Choice award. Written prior to the House of Night series, The Goddess of Partholon books feature P.C.’s favorite all time character of her creation, the sexy centaur, ClanFintan. In fact, as part of her research for her latest House of Night novel she met Seoras Wallace, head of the Wallace Clan and direct descendant of William Wallace. In Seoras, P.C. found her real life ClanFintan, a Celtic warrior, wise in the ways of his ancestors and keen to share the history of the land with those he loves.
Don’t we just love a happy ending, especially in real life?
Special thanks to Felicity at Midas PR for suggesting and providing the series to PBD.
