This was a fantastic and extremely well told story that is a literary version of Desperate Housewives, but focused more on the friendships and bonds of three friends and their daughters.
Three women; Tara, Emerson and Noelle have been the best of friends for years and have been there for each other through major life events, but when one of them takes her own life the others are left with the realization that they may not have known their friend as well as they thought.
Tara and Emerson are distraught over the loss of their friend and cannot understand what led Noelle to commit suicide even after reading the letter she left behind. With more questions needed answering the two friends set out to solve the mystery and discover the secret that was too big for their friend to continue living with…
At the core of the book is the relationships between the women and their daughters–this was so touching and realistic. I was on the edge of my seat at moments and wiping away tears the next.
This isn’t normally the type of book I would pick up on my own. The cover alone normally would dissuade me from purchasing the book, but luckily I will read anything if the synopsis is interesting and after reading THE MIDWIFE’S CONFESSION the cover makes some sense (though I still think it deserves a really awesome cover that is more mysterious). Cover aside, I was still surprised by how much I enjoyed this story… I really honestly loved it. I will definitely be giving this book to friends to read and checking out future books by Diane Chamberlain for my own reading pleasure!
