Smart Chicks Kick It 2.0: Interview with Rachel Vincent

Submitted by on October 4, 2011 – 7:19 pmOne Comment

What made you decide to participate in the Smart Chicks Kick It Tour this year?

There’s nothing like the Smart Chicks tour. I participated last year, and it was unbelievable. The authors were having fun, and the audience had so much energy, and those two things fed each other on every stop. Huge crowds. A great group of authors. And I think this year’s going to be even better.

Do you have a favorite memory from last year’s tour?

The crowd in Houston was huge. There wasn’t enough room for everyone to sit in the designated area, so there were dozens of people standing in the stacks. They couldn’t see anything, and I don’t know how much they could hear, but they were so excited. When we threw prizes out into the crowd, several of us had to stand on the tables so we could reach the readers hidden by the shelves.

What are you most looking forward to on the tour this go around?

Everything. I’ve never been to Seattle, so I’m looking forward to the trip itself. I only know about half of the authors on my stop this year, so I’m thrilled for the chance to see them again, and I can’t wait to meet the others. And we’re appearing at a book festival, which is awesome in itself.

One thing is for certain…there are some amazing authors on this tour with awesome books… Do you find time to read books by any of your fellow authors on tour? If so, who?

Yes, of course! I don’t have a lot of time to relax anymore, but I’ve read Kelley Armstrong, Jen Barnes, Carrie Ryan, Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia, Melissa Marr, Jeri Smith-Ready, Sara Zarr, and Simone Elkeles. And I have all the others in a huge pile of books waiting to be read.

What is next for you?

It’s kind of a crazy year. This month, the Enthralled anthology comes out just days before If I Die, the fifth in my Soul Screamers series. In November, the Soul Screamers omnibus Volume One comes out, and in December there will be a new Soul Screamers online-only story. Then next summer there will be both a new Soul Screamers novel (Before I Wake, book 6) and a new book in my adult trilogy. Somewhere in there, I’m making concrete plans to take a good, deep breath. ;)
