But something is off. Random details aren’tadding up…and is it her imagination, or are her friends and fiancé keeping secrets from her? And what’s with this strange sense of unease, and her odd new headaches?
Justine tries to stay upbeat as Midcity cowers under martial law, sleepwalking cannibals, and a mysterious rash of paranormal copycat violence, but her search for answers leads her into the most dangerous mindgame yet.
With the help of unlikely allies, including her paranoid dad and best frenemy Simon, Justine fights her ultimate foe…and unravels the most startling mystery of all.
HEAD RUSH is my most anticipated book of 2011. This long awaited conclusion brings a very satisfying ending to the helluva cliffhanger Crane left for fans in DOUBLE CROSS. The only drawback is the limited availability of the book. Due to a switch in publisher and other circumstances, the book was released to audio first and will be followed by e-book then print a few weeks after. Now, for audio lovers (like myself) that’s not too big of a problem, however for several fans who won’t listen to books…it is. I found the narrator to be very talented. She did a great job with characters and even though her voice wasn’t at all how I imagined Justine’s to be I could overlook it after a few chapters. Minor issues aside, the story is wonderful and worth the wait!
We pick up a short time after where things left off for our heroes. Justine has moved ahead with her life and is preparing to marry “Mr. Wonderful” super detective turned Mayor of Mid-City, Otto Sanchez. She is still traumatized by what she believes she witnessed and torn between her mind and her heart. Even more puzzling is the fact that those nearest and dearest to her seem to display animosity toward her impending nuptials and by extension, her groom.
After Simon helps Justine find her missing Jetta in a Junk yard, she uncovers a secret and discovers a new mystery. The secret being that her betrothed has been having her actions tracked. Supposedly, this is for her safety, but it just doesn’t feel right to Justine. The mystery is not only how her Jetta ended up in impound, but how her beloved dashboard Gumby ended up in the “Happy Position”…no- one but her would do that to Gumby, and she has no recollection of posing him to look happy.
Baffled by her friends ill-feelings about her wedding, finding out that her every move is being monitored by Otto and the whole mystery surrounding her car and Gumby, Justine sets out to find the answers. But, what she finds will change the course of her life and alter her existence forever!
This is the third and final installment in the series. I admit, I’m a little sad to see it close but the author managed to tie everything together wonderfully, giving her fans an incredibly satisfying ending. With strong characters, creepy plot lines and a dash of comic relief here and there, this is a trilogy for the keeper shelf!
OH MY GOSH! I can’t WAIT for this book to come out. I absolutely LOVED the first two and the cliffhanger at the end of the second book has been slowly eating away at my soul. It’s nice to know things were wrapped up by the end of the book. No more cliffhangers. Thank God.
Totally! What’s funny is that I normally despise cliff-hangers but for some reason didn’t mind too much with this series. I was only really anxious to read book 3! It is good and dare I say…more sexy than the previous books:)
Ooh… You can dare to say it, I don’t mind. ;)
:) It is super sexy!
You are a new author to me and your book sounds great :) I’m thankful for the book community as well.
Nice review.I have book 2…I don’t know why I don’t have the first :)
This series always gets rave reviews.
Yanno… I think that this series strikes a chord with many readers because the heroine isn’t some super kick-butt character. She has major insecurities and just happens to be recruited to become a Disillusionist because of how paranoid and fearful she is about things. It is a unique super power and the world is creative too… The fact that the author’s created a couple sext male characters to turn up the heat doesn’t hurt much either!
I’ve never heard of these series, but you have me very interested. Got to love a mystery surrounding gumby ;)
Interesting review. I’ve read other books by Carolyn Crane, but not this series.
