Book Blogging Confessions: Positive Aspect of Blogging

Submitted by on March 5, 2012 – 12:09 pm5 Comments

Tiger from and Karen from For What It’s Worth have introduced a meme called “Book Blogger Confessions.” On the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, they will ask us a question that effects book bloggers and give us a chance to vent, share our opinion or offer a solution.

This weeks question: Let’s talk about a positive aspect of blogging! How has blogging influenced your real life in a positive way? (not related to books or reading) Have you learned to be organized or are you more social now for example?

Teresa: Blogging has helped my writing (I think), even though it sometimes takes away from it. I think it gives people a better understanding of who I am as a writer. It hasn’t organized me yet, (that may have to do with the house more than the blog) but it does make me sit down and write, which then normally makes me want to work on my novel.

Noa: I suppose there are two things that stand out when I think of what blogging has done for me in the non-blog world: First of all, yes, it is the friends I’ve made. Not only are they my blog buddies but many people who I’ve met through blogs have now become my “non-blog” friends. We’ve found joint interests, and in many cases, they’ve introduced me to new and exciting interests. It has really opened a new world – one that thanks to the blog is right at my fingertips.

The second thing that comes to mind is that thanks to the blog, and really, the outlet it gives me to express my thought an opinions, I now feel more confident to do so in other areas of my life. From little things like feeling more confident in demanding my rights at work (ok, not a little thing – quite scary really) to writing opinion pieces for newspapers and becoming more pro-active with regards to causes close to my heart.

Blogging has, I hope, made me a better person, and no – I’m not being cynical.

Stephanie: When asked to think of how book blogging has impacted my life in a positive way I would have to say that it has helped me with my time management skills. I already work full time and attend college full time at night. My spare time is quite limited and having a deadline for a book review forces me to fit reading and writing time around my hectic schedule. I have been amazed how much I can accomplish during a month when I have to set completion goals for myself! Taking this into consideration I would say that blogging has also helped me to set short term goals.I also like to think that blogging helps me to learn more effectively how to get my point of view across in writing. One day I would like to be a writer and I think blogging positively helps me prepare for this long term goal.

Mona: Blogging has forced me to own my opinions. Where previously I would remain quiet, now I speak up and expound on various topics. No matter how strongly I feel, I’m not the type to be belligerent or confrontational, but I can pour my heart into a blog and hope to persuade someone to see my point of view.

I can’t say blogging has made me more organized, because I have just enough OCD to do that on my own, but it does force me to do more advance planning. It also increases my awareness of other bloggers.

Believer: Book blogging is great! Blogging has introduced me to a huge amount of interesting people across the world. I’ve been fortunate to meet many of these folks in person. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet & correspond with many talented authors. But I understand that the Holy Grail of all book bloggerdom are the conventions!

When I grows up I want to go to RT and BEA. :D

Paperback Dolls is made up of women from different parts of the world, with different backgrounds, different tastes and beliefs that were brought together through a love of reading. We like to think of ourselves as a cyber version of "The View" that focuses on books, authors, and reading. We are proof positive that one common love can unite the most opposite of people and form lasting friendships that introduce other ways of life and perspectives to each other.

I love that all of you answer the question. It’s fun reading the different responses.
Mona – I feel like blogging has helped me own my opinions too. It’s really easy to spout off “I hated or loved” that” It’s harder to say WHY.

And Noa! We got to meet at BEA. I love when I get to finally meet up with my online friends.

Funny how that works. I’ve always been opinionated, but circumstances have always dictated that I keep my mouth shut and carry on.

Now, I feel like circumstances be damned, if I want to voice my opinion, I will. It’s mine and I’m entitled to it. LOL
