He is the fiercest warrior of his clan—her people’s sworn enemy—and tonight he is standing over her bed. Eyes blazing, muscles taut, and battle axe gleaming, MacLean has come to kill Amelia’s fiancé. But once he sees the lovely, innocent Amelia, he decides to take her instead…
Stealing the young bride-to-be is the perfect revenge against the man who murdered Duncan’s one true love. But Lady Amelia turns out to be more than a pawn of vengeance and war. This brave, beautiful woman touches something deep in Duncan’s soul that is even more powerful than a warrior’s fury. But when Amelia begins to fall in love with her captor—and surrenders in his arms—the real battle begins…
I’ve always had a thing for men in kilts. Being of Irish decent it just seems to come naturally to me. But up until recently I’ve been guilty of never reading any of the Regency romances or Highlander romances. I felt that it was time to change this and began my journey into this genre with one of the most popular titles, Captured by the Highlander by Julianne MacLean.
Through this novel, we are introduced to Lady Amelia Sutherland and Duncan MacLean, also known as “The Butcher”. This book is a classic example of opposites attracts and is filled with ups and downs experienced by this couple who start off as enemies.
Lady Amelia Sutherland is now a prisoner of Duncan MacLean a.k.a. “The Butcher”, sworn enemy of her people and ruthless warrior and leader of a powerful clan. Duncan came to kill her fiancé but after spotting her natural beauty decided to seek his vengeance by making Lady Amelia his prisoner. After all, it seems a fair price to pay considering Amelia’s fiancé killed Duncan’s one true love. But Amelia becomes much more than a piece of the vengeance puzzle and a pawn of war. Her beauty and courage speak to Duncan’s spirit. And while the war rages on the battlefields, a true internal war begins when Amelia falls for her captor.
Captured by the Highlander was a very fun read. The characters are endearing, the plot is full of twists and turns, the setting is captivating, and there is even a bit of humor thrown in. The historical aspects are spot on and the way the story unfolds is enthralling.
The romance and hotness of this book are fairly decent but not a complete scorcher. My one pet peeve with this novel is Lady Amelia’s naivety about the war and Duncan’s role in it. Apart from this I found that Captured by the Highlander was an overall good read. I look forward to reading the remaining books in this series.
