Behind their passion lurks a dark truth that could destroy their love.A mistress should never be foolish enough to fall in love with her protector, nor trust him with her financial future. Mariah Desmond did both, and now her dearly departed protector has left her with nothing.
Forced to seek another protector, she’s determined that this time, she’ll lead with her survival instinct—not her heart. But when she attends one of Vivien Manning’s infamous parties, the familiar face of her late lover’s best friend throws her for a loop.
A painful past taught John Rycroft that he’s not fit to be anyone’s knight in shining armor. His soft spot—make that a hard spot—for Mariah is precisely why he’s kept his distance. Yet the sight of her flirting with a bevy of men vying to become her next lover makes something inside him snap.
As John hauls her bodily away from her suitors, Mariah’s indignation melts away in the heat of the sizzling sexual chemistry. She quickly finds it isn’t easy to navigate John’s stormy emotional waters. Especially when his abusive father’s quest to get his son back under his thumb puts her life in danger.
I am not a fan of historic romances and I am still a newbie when it comes to the world of erotica but when the other dolls kept talking about Jess Michaels I decided to finally dive into something different. My first JM read was the first book in the Mistress Matchmaker series, An Introduction To Pleasure. I became a fan the second page in so when the next in the series came up for review I jumped on it! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! And I was not disappointed. Jess Michaels delivers with a passionate, deep, and slightly dark story that truly entertains and pulls the reader deep within the pages of her story.
The characters are developed into strong personalities yet are easy to read. John is a smoldering alpha male who was so easy to fall for. I didn’t want to stop reading him. Mariah was a naive mistress and she is determined to not make the same mistake twice but come on, let’s be honest! It would take a coldhearted woman to be able to resist John. And even when there are major obstacles in their way these to are drawn together and it’s completely believable. I love when I can suspend reality yet at the same time have the story not go beyond what our brains can handle. For me there is nothing worse than yelling at a book about how “that would never happen!”. All that means is the author didn’t do a good enough job of selling her story to me. Jess Michaels is an amazing saleswoman.
There are true moments of heart stopping drama that I often find lacking in Erotica and somehow Michaels has discovered a way to add depth to the plot while keeping the level of sexual tension tight and full of super hot moments. Like I said I am still knew to Erotica and it’s even hard for me to review (I’m such a dork) but I am super excited about this writer and everything she puts out. If you are looking for super hot love scenes without to much of the corny writing that can often describe sex please put this series on your TBR. You will not be disappointed. I do suggest keeping a fan and a glass of ice water on hand. And for the love of God to NOT read this in public unless you don’t mind people witnessing your panting, blushing, and sighing at the hotness that is John Rycroft.
