ARC Review: Succubus Revealed by Richelle Mead

Submitted by on August 29, 2011 – 4:00 am56 Comments

Author: Richelle Mead
Book: Succubus Revealed
Release: August 30, 2011
Series: Georgina Kincaid 6
Reviewer: KittNLuv
Source: Kensington
Purchase: – Book Depository

Georgina Kincaid has had an eternity to figure out the opposite sex, but sometimes they still surprise her. Take Seth Mortensen. The man has risked his soul to become Georgina’s boyfriend. Still, with Lucifer for a boss, Georgina can’t just hang up her killer heels and settle down to domestic bliss. In fact, she’s being forced to transfer operations…to Las Vegas.

The City of Sin is a dream gig for a succubus, but Georgina’s allies are suspicious. Why are the powers-that-be so eager to get her away from Seattle—-and from Seth? Georgina is one of Hell’s most valuable assets, but if there’s any way out of the succubus business she plans to take it–no matter how much roadkill she leaves behind. She just hopes the casualties won’t include the one man she’s risking everything for…

As the last book in the Georgina Kincaid series, I’m finding the outcome of our journey with the witty, smart and sexy succubus to be bittersweet. Succubus Revealed brings together and answers all of the questions that have accumulated over the last five books into one shiny package, but at a cost to the reader.

Or perhaps, it’s just me. Except, though, while reading through this last adventure with Georgina and Co., I couldn’t help but notice that there was permanent storm cloud hanging constantly close by that had nothing to do with the inevitable ending to a series I’ve been following almost since the beginning. With every turn that Georgina makes, there is something new that has gone wrong, something different that has been damaged or broken completely. Even a reader can only take so much of a somber mood before something has to ultimately give.

I mention before that Succubus Revealed was bittersweet ending for me, but it isn’t for the reason that many will think. While I am saddened by the closing of a great series, I’m also content in the way things worked out for Georgina, but not how things go down in general. Mostly what I wasn’t so happy about was what happens to one of our beloved characters, though, this is a rant for another time.

Overall I’d have to say that I enjoyed Succubus Revealed. I think depending on who you are routing for – whether you’re on team Seth or team Roman – will decide how you feel after you finished that last page. Even though after finishing the last book, Succubus Shadows, I fell out of complete love for this series, I have always took pleasure in visiting these fantastic characters and I’ll miss them terribly so – especially Carter, because who doesn’t love a grunge angel addicted to box wine?

I’m kind of approaching this from a “finally…a resolution” perspective. I’m looking forward reading this, although I have my suspicions about what you have saved a rant about – and I’m thinking I may rant about it too.

    Nice review!

    • By the end, all I could think was the same “FINALLY! A resolution” When did I become so jaded towards this series? I absolutely loved the first 3 books and then.. slowly I just didn’t anymore.

Thanks for the review! A resolution almost always makes for a better reading experience and does not tend to leave a bad taste in the reader’s mouth. Glad it was satisfying.

I just recently read this series, and I’m kicking myself for not reading it sooner! I love this series, but now, after reading your review, I’m kinda afraid to read this last book lest I fall out of love for this series, too. :S But still, thanks for the review! :)

I absolutely can not to get my copy today. It is a little bittersweet though, because I really don’t want it to come to an end. I’m hoping that she will miss her characters and decide to do a spin-off with some of the other characters.

I’ve only read the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead, and I’ve just bought the first book to this series. From your review, it looks like the first three books will be exciting. And I know that I’ll have to finish the series regardless of how I feel after the fifth book because I *have* to know just what you’re talking about in this review!

Great review! If she doesn’t give a resolution to most of the characters, will there be an epilogue of sorts? Like in a short story or something?

Had to wait until I read it to read this review – even though I knew you wouldn’t “spoil” it. :) Started and finished it last night. I too, was satisfied with the ending, but I agree with many parts of your review. One thing that continues to excited me about this and all of the other Richelle Mead books I have read, is how comfortable I felt with the characters and the writing style that I actually felt like I was sitting around Peter’s place chatting with the gang! How can I help? I was screaming to them. (No answer.) What can I do? (Crickets.) And now it’s over. :( The life of a book-aholic is a tough one, eh?

I must admit that Mona is right about the “dark cloud” or subtle, almost sad mood the books (except for the first one for me) possess.
I fell out of love after book two after with the series not caring for the ending at all. Book four caught my attention and I went back to reading the series again. Again, I was not thrilled with the ending of book five because, frankly I am not a “Seth fan”. I prefer Roman the most for her and even though he would “fall” becoming involved with Georgina, Carter is a favorite too (always thought “what a great character he is”). I will read the book though, hoping that I will love it or at least like it.
