Purchase: | Book Depository“New Crimson Petal Stories”. In this collection, Michael Faber revisits the world of his bestselling novel, “The Crimson Petal & White”, briefly opening doors onto the lives of its characters to give us tantalising glimpses of where they sprang from and what happened to them
Having adored The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber I decided to check out a book that contained short stories about the characters that we know and love (or hate in some cases) from The Crimson Petal and the White, in his follow up book The Apple. Some of these stories take place before the Crimson Petal and the White and some take place afterward.
I loved this book just as much as I did The Crimson Petal and the White. Each story brings a unique perspective of the characters that we became so acquainted with in its predecessor. Once again, Faber proves himself to be a literary master, providing detail oriented accounts of both lovable and loathsome characters. However, unlike The Crimson Petal and the White, this book is a quick read. But be forewarned DO NOT READ THIS UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE READ ITS PREDECESSORS, OTHERWISE MUCH OF THE PLOT WILL BE SPOILED.
My favorite stories in this anthology were Christmas in Silver Street, Chocolate Hearts from the New World, and The Fly, and Its Effect upon Mr. Bodley. However, all of the stories in this anthology are magnificent.
