Doll Steph on what she’s thankful for
The time of year when we all stop to ponder what we are thankful for is upon us and as I look back on the past year I am thankful for many things. It has been a tough year for me that brought news that is challenging my entire view of my future. Still, this reality has brought many reasons to be thankful into my life this year.
To start I am so thankful for my wonderful husband who has stood beside me and has provided amazing support through our struggle with infertility this year. When we received the news and I was devastated beyond words he said all of the right things and has refused to let me give up. For this reason alone I truly have so much to be thankful for.
I also continue to be grateful for the wonderful friends that have come into my life through our love of books. Each of you touches me and enriches my life in some way. You are my cheerleaders when I feel no one else understands me and I’m fighting against the world and you encourage me to follow my dreams. You also have been supportive since I found out I may be infertile this summer and I will forever be grateful for the part each of you have played in cheering me up and helping me to stay strong. When I look back on the past few years I will have to say that meeting all of you has been the spark for me to challenge my world view and beliefs and because of you I am forever changed and for that I am extremely thankful.
Finally, when we began thinking of which author we were most thankful for this year without hesitation I said Alma Katsu. The Taker is such a delicious read full of complex characters. I had not realized how much I was longing for a new journey in reading until I started the first page. It has been my favorite book this year and I must say I enjoyed quite a few and I’m looking forward to many more books from Alma in the future.
The Taker has given me some life lessons to ponder; including, are the things that I believe true or do I just believe them because I have been told they are true? How can you not be grateful for a book that challenges you to look at things from a fresh perspective? Alma is not just the author I am most grateful for because of her book alone though. She is humble and enjoys talking with us, the people who love her books. Alma genuinely is appreciative of the fans who love her writing which is so refreshing.
I feel from Alma a contagious excitement that she has fulfilled a life –long dream to be published and she is willing to share her tips and advice with us. I can imagine myself at a coffee shop sitting in my comfy chair chatting away with her discussing a range of fascinating topics.
For these reasons and many more Alma Katsu is by far the author that I am most thankful for in 2011 and will remain one of my favorite authors for many years to come.
Thank you Alma for everything.
